Our Story

Humble Beginnings

Thank you for being so interested in NorthernLights Pizza®! We are Kerry and Sandy Petersen, owners and founders of NorthernLights Pizza Company®. Our company story began in 1994 when we borrowed $3,000 and took over a failed pizza shop in Clive, Iowa. With that modest amount of money, we purchased flour, cheese, imported spices, and other high-quality ingredients and began selling our pizzas door-to-door. We continued to work hard and put all profits back into the business, and expanded to six locations across the Des Moines metro area. By 2006, we opened the first of three locations in Kansas City. In 2015, we opened the first express convenience store location called NorthernLights Pizza DASH®. Today, our company is continuing our fast-paced growth throughout Iowa, Wisconsin, and Nebraska.

On A Passionate Pursuit of Pizza Perfection®

Today, we are still On A Passionate Pursuit of Pizza Perfection®, starting with our homemade signature TastyCrust®. We use all-natural pizza sauce, fresh-cut vegetables, and 100% real cheeses. The local communities we serve are vital to us, which is why we purchase ingredients locally whenever we can. This dedication to quality first will never change! We will only serve you a pizza that we would serve to our own family.

Kerry and Sandy continue to work on day-to-day operations and ensure that the pizzas today are just as excellent as they were in the first days of selling them door-to-door.
